A visitation will be held on Monday, September 16, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Hillside Funeral Home West, 2929 W 13th St. Wichita, KS. The funeral service will take place on Tuesday, September 17, 2024 at 10:00 AM, with burial to follow at 2:00 PM at Halstead Cemetery Halstead, KS. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Hillside Funeral Home West.
Steve was born in Kansas City, MO on March 25, 1956. He graduated from Heights High School in Wichita, KS and attained a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Wichita State University. Steve worked as a sergeant for 33 years and 10 months with the Wichita Police Department. Afterward, he served for about 8 years with the Sedgwick County Courthouse Police until his retirement.
Steve loved history and was passionate about politics, always adding interesting facts to conversations. He was a Mason and dedicated many years as a leader in both Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. His hobbies included caring for his homing pigeons and cats, golfing, and he was an avid gamer spending hours playing World of Warcraft. In his younger years he enjoyed role-playing and historical reenactments. Steve will be remembered for his love of God, justice and his country.
Steve is survived by his two brothers, Kenneth and Douglas Hiser; two wonderful children, Nicholas (L.J.) Hiser and Alexis Goldwater and his grandson, Orion Goldwater. He is also survived by his wife Catherine; stepdaughter Elisa (Andrew) Thompson; stepson Jonathan (Amber) Nevarez; mother in-law Juanita Cline; sister-in law Julia (Manuel) Guevara; several cousins, nieces and nephews, and many friends and colleagues.
Steven is preceded in death by his parents Glenn and Connie Hiser; an infant brother; his grandparents Carter and Hiser; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
