She was born in Baton Rouge, LA on August 16, 1927 to Louis L. Aucoin and Lillian V. Schroeder and raised in the home of her paternal grandparents. After graduating from high school Jane entered the Sisters of St. Joseph in New Orleans, LA Sept. 8, 1944, professing first vows March 20, 1946 and final profession August 15, 1949.
Sister Jane’s preparation for teaching and school administration ministry included a B.S. in Education from Loyola University in New Orleans and an M.A. from Notre Dame University. She was a teacher and principal at schools in the New Orleans diocese until the Congregation called her to leadership where she spent the years 1965-1976 as Assistant Provincial in New Orleans and Associate General in France. After Congregation ministry she served in diocesan and parish ministry in San Antonio, TX before assuming responsibility for the Archives of the Congregation. In 2009 she retired and moved to the Congregation Center in Baton Rouge until Hurricane Katrina in 2014 when she moved to the Wichita Center where she resided in Marian Hall until her final days.
She was preceded in death by her parents. In addition to members of her religious community, she is survived by her half-brothers, E.J. Morris III and William Morris.
Homecoming will be Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. followed by the Wake service at 7:00 p.m. that evening. The Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday November 8 at 10:30 a.m., all at Mt. St. Mary’s Convent, 3700 E. Lincoln, Wichita, KS 67218. Memorial contributions in her name may be made to Dear Neighbor Ministries or the Retirement Fund for the Sisters of St. Joseph, 3700 E.
