Sister Rosemary (Mary Raymond) Montecino entered eternal life June 1, 2013 at the age of 91. She was the sixth of nine children of Henry and Rose (Guedry) Montecino. “Rosie” as she liked to be called, was born July 25, 1921 in Baton Rouge, LA and entered the Sisters of St. Joseph in 1939. She received a B.S. from Loyola New Orleans, M.A. from Xavier University in Cincinnati, OH.
As an educator, she taught at St. Rose in New Orleans; St. Joseph Academy, Bay St. Louis, MS; McNicholas High, Cincinnati, OH; Catholic High, New Roads, LA and was principal at St. Joseph Academy, Baton Rouge and Catholic High, New Roads LA. Her second ministry was Social and pastoral at St. Joseph the Worker Parish in New Orleans and Immaculate Conception Parish, Denham Springs, LA. About this time in her life, “Rosie” said, “I find myself to be a faith leader among people who are in many stages of spiritual growth…”
In 2007, she retired to Wichita, KS, the Congregation of St. Joseph’s Marian Hall where she continued her service in prayer and acceptance of ill health.
In addition to her religious family she is survived by two sisters: Mae Mollere and Rae Romeo. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Edward, Rev. Henry R., Robert, sisters Ruth Hilton, Miriam as well as a number of nieces, nephews and many friends.
The Homecoming will be Monday, June 3 at 3:00 p.m., the wake 7:00 p.m. and the Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 4, all at the Wichita Center of the Congregation of St. Joseph.
