Since the age of 3, Ron Blum was an aviation geek. He became a pilot w/glider rating with a BS in Aeronautical/Aerospace Engineering. He started his aviation career at Sun Aerospace in Nappanee, IN, and worked at EAA headquarters. He has supervised/created Flight Test and Aerodynamics departments at Boeing, Cessna, Honda, Beech and Kestrel before being Chief Engineer for Mooney’s M10. He was the founder of Blue on Top, LLC, providing consulting and DER services.
To any who would ask why he named his company, Blue on Top, he would explain, “When the weather or situation becomes difficult, climb above the clouds to where the sky is always blue on top!”
Ron’s other interests include 29 years of marriage to Kalynn, and he loved being around family and friends. He also enjoyed reading and bicycle riding. He loved life, and was active in his church, president of EAA Chapter 88, volunteered at the Wichita Food Bank, Kansas Aviation Museum and helped out whenever and wherever asked.
He is survived by his wife, Kalynn Blum; his sister, Cheryl Blum; his brothers, Randy Blum (Joann), David Blum (David Martinez); brothers-in-law: Jerry Blank (Karen) and Larry Blank (Ruth); nephews: Shawn Blum (Beth), Tyler Blum (Heather), Tyler Blank (Emily); nieces: Tonya Krueger (Mike), Jennifer Nyp (Giro de Simone), Wendy Eisenmenger (Mike), Megan Phillips (Jason), eight great nephews and four great nieces.
