He is preceded in death by his parents, George R. Hill, Marvel Elaine Trefethen; step-father, Robert Trefethen; and brother George D. Hill.
Roger was born in Wichita, Kansas on October 14, 1948, and graduated from Derby Senior High School in 1966. After four years in the Navy, and serving 18 months in Viet Nam during the late 1960s, Roger returned home to friends and family. He was instrumental in organizing and running early comic book conventions in Wichita, both at the old Broadview Hotel, and the Ramada Inn on Kellogg. As an artist, he also supplied advertising art and window display art to local comic shops such as Air Capital Comics and The Shadow's Sanctum. He was also a lifetime member of OAF (The Oklahoma Alliance of Fans) and supported comic conventions in Oklahoma, Texas and throughout the Midwest for many years. He, along with local comic collector Jerry Weist, published the first comic fanzine produced in Wichita called SQUA TRONT. This fanzine was devoted to the stories and art of the EC Entertaining Comics group which was always Roger's collecting interest and focus both in his research and writings. He remained affiliated with SQUA TRONT for over forty years contributing art and articles as needed.
During the early 1990s, Roger worked with Jerry Weist as comic art advisor on the Sotheby's Comic Book and Art auctions in New York City. In 2003, he edited and published his own EC fanzine called EC FAN-ADDICT FANZINE, which ran three issues. His first book titled WALLY WOOD: GALAXY ART AND BEYOND was published in 2016.
He is survived by his wife, Terry Hill and sons, Kevin Hill and Joseph Rudnicki, step-daughter, Nicole Lindeman and family, of Wichita, step-son, Bryce McClintock of Grand Prairie, TX; siblings, Lloydena Wentz of Denton, TX, Lia Brashier of Udall, KS and Ronnie Hill of Wichita; and step-mother, Donna Hill of Wichita. He leaves behind many cousins, nephews, nieces, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, lots of friends and acquaintances on the EC Facebook page, and others from coast to coast who shared his interests.
