Grandpa,

I can’t thank you enough for everything you did for Josh and I growing up. You were there for us in our darkest time, when we thought we might lose our mother. You and grandma stepped in and acted as our parents when mom was in the hospital fighting for her life. I never appreciated the selflessness of that act until adulthood.

I will always remember our many summers spent in Wichita, riding bikes in the park, and driving around town in the car sucking on lemon drops that you always had in the glovebox. You will be missed and your legacy will call be carried on. Love you Grandpa!

Over the last couple of years my grandpa and I got very close. We would spend at least two days out of the week eating our favorite foods and watching sports. Even in my grandpas old age he still was very sharper and could answer any questions I had about machine shops. I enjoyed all the time I got to spent with him and only could wish to have had more time with with him but I know he is in a better place and one day we will be united as a family again. I will always miss you and everything you have done for me. My best friend, my role model, my grandpa.

Papa was a very patient man. I’ve never seen him angry, frustrated maybe, but never angry. He always worked hard and loved harder. I remember visiting him on my own for the first time and I woke up to the sound of gospel music playing very, very loudly and papa just sitting there with his eyes closed smiling. We would sit there in the mornings together listening to swing low sweet chariot and he’d make jokes about how that chariot is going to have to swing really low to pick him up. He really loved the Lord and I think that’s what made him such a great man. While visiting with him I noticed his coffee was all gone and I asked if he’d like me to get him anymore. Our conversation went a little something like this.
Me: “papa you’ve drank all your coffee you want anymore?”

Papa: “oh maybe a little bit (proceeds to tell me how to make the coffee using the coffee maker that I also have at my house)”

Me: “how do you like it?… Black? “

Papa: “you’ve got other colors!?”

He always knew how to put a smile on my face that same day he showed me a picture of a Halloween  skeleton  and told me that that was the last person who tried to mess with him! I love you papa forever and always! You were a good and kind man and I am so blessed to have called you Grandpa!

Mr. Fix-It, that was what we called you in the days of of your grandchildren growing up. A toy would break and when tears came we would tell each other “It’s okay! Mr. Fix-It will fix it! And you did! 
You have been the best father-in-law a girl could ever have. I love you so much and will miss you! Until we meet again…you are forever in our hearts. ❤️Twila


Dad was my biggest fan, always in my corner. I will miss him so much. He was the gorilla glue that held the family together. Well played Sir.
