Richard was a dear friend of my Father Robert Matteson. This was in 1987.   I have a Dresser that was once owned by Dick and I still think of him.  My Father and Dick had many good times together and many great laughs.  He lived near Coe Mansion at that time but then later up by the Golf Course.   One time we went to the Ranch that my Father grew up on and camped.  I remember Richard having this laugh that was infectious.  I always very much enjoyed talking to him.   I wished I could talk to him again !   

I knew my old friend and fellow wild man had moved to Wyoming, and I'm now very, very sorry we lost touch.  I apologize for this late condolence.  My absolute best to Dick's family  (he was Dick to me)and also to Carole and Richard V, whom I remember very fondly in Southern Indiana.

I am so thankful that Richard has had someone wonderful like you in his life. The strength and courage that you both demonstrated over the past few years is immeasurable. I heard that the memorial was absolutely perfect and conducted in a manner that he would have loved. I truly wish I could have attended to celebrate his life but please know that my heart was there. We will stay in touch...

JoDeen, I am not sure if you remember me, but I wanted to extend my sympathy to you. We worked together at Carlas. Loss of a loved one is not easy,I lost my Mom in September last year.May God be with you in the months and years to come.

Richard was my uncle and though we barely saw each other, he was a fun person and made a mean pan of mashed potatoes!  We will miss him.  Love to you and feel free to reach out anytime.

I am sorry to hear of your loss of such a beloved historical Illinoisian!   May God bless your family with many more members.  It isn't often that there is a fifth son in the family.  We lived in Wmsville, Ill for a while & visited Elkhart cemetery where one of our former govenors is buried.  I assume you were a relative of him. What a joy knowing you Richard. I will never forget your wit and "dry" sense of humor.I was honored to pray with you. Heaven rejoices as it receives another of its own.

Richard and I spent many hours together talking about ourselves and believes we each held.  I was happy to be able to teach him to shoot handguns.  He liked his firearms and his ability to shoot accurately.  During his last year of life, he was always eager to live and enjoy his friends.
Richard, I will miss you.  You brought meaning to our friendship.  My the Lord give you peace and happiness in the manner you desired.

Hi Jodeen, i am so sorry about Richard. I just lost my Mom, in fact her obit is listed today.  Melba Shasteen.  We lost her to cancer.  Richard had a long journey & now he is at peace. To Richards Family - He was a driven and intense man who got everything out of life he could.  He also gave everything he could and his military record followed by his being of service in a most important way in the medical world is indicative of just how much Richard cared,  He has moved on and to CMA class of 1965, Richard has done his last WIPE OUT.  He will be missed.  What a fun guy!
