When Regina "Gina" Marie Gregory walked into the room, those in her company would notice her smile and her good looks. Gina always had an impact on those around her. She was a generous and gregarious person who sought out the fun in other people. It was as if Gina wanted to share all of their experiences, revel in their lives and celebrate their discoveries. Gina loved her friends and loved to celebrate everything. She was a party girl who lived for the moment. At times she was insanely funny. An example was Gina's vocal imitation of what she called "Cat in a blender". She had amazing voice control, she could mimic animal sounds and crying babies. She could sing like an angel.
Gina was born on February 19, 1985 at Wesley Hospital in Wichita, Kansas. She was the daughter of Larry and Karen Weaver. Gina was raised in Wichita. Always at the ready with a good joke, she grew up to be quite a humorous person.
As a young girl, Gina was able to empathize and identify with a large array of people and personality types. This quality drew her into a diverse group of friends and acquaintances. Gina was intelligent and had little trouble getting along with her peers. Gina took part in YMCA camp when she was 11 or 12 years old. She enjoyed horseback riding the most. In her spare time she liked to have fun with her friends. Gina had the ability to find amusement with almost any activity she and the many childhood friends she shared might discover. Gina had a birthday party every year until the age of 13. These parties were at home, McDonald's, Chucky Cheese, Roller Skating and slumber parties. One memorable slumber party was at a Holiday Inn where she and her friends went swimming. She looked forward to her birthday parties each year. Her 12th birthday party was especially memorable because it was also the first date of her Mom Karen and Larry Eilert, who would later become Gina's Step dad. Her Aunt Kathy was at that party as well to help chaperone. You could always count on Kathy to keep a very close eye on Gina. She was like a second Mom to Gina.
She attended East High in her Sophomore and Junior years. She then went to Metro for a short time and earned her GED in 2003. For Gina, school often became just an extension of playtime, thanks to her ability to turn just about anything into a game. Classmates considered Gina a good listener, knowing that when necessary, they could go to her to discuss just about anything. Her favorite class in high school was choir. Gina attended Xenon school of hair design and graduated May 12, 2006 in Nail Technology.
With a talent for making acquaintances easily which in turn brought her an endless stream of friends, Gina was very sociable and could blend without effort into any social group. Assertive and outgoing, Gina was easy to know and demonstrated a concern for others. She always seemed aware of what was going on with people around her and throughout her life she made many, friends. While growing up, some of her best friends were Emily Gleason, Hayley Shannon, Shalyn Kvassay, Christian Heidrick, Briana Wildoner, Jessie McCann, Mandi Johnson, Jolynn Huffstetler, Stacy Hargett (Cousin and Friend). Later in life, she became friends with Emily (Sister in law), Phil Reimer, Vita Grado, Craig Avery, Hector Marquez, Joel Watts, Andy Streepy, Kelli Sykes, Perry Coffey, Kollin Serrien, April Kagan, David Frambo and Alyssa Weaver (Half Sister). She continued her childhood friendships into adulthood.
On October 23rd, 2004 Gina married Jeremiah Gregory at In her home in Wichita. Gina loved to cook for her friends and husband. She would often have friends over for a new recipe that she was trying out. Gina was tenderhearted and sensitive, qualities that served her well in helping to nurture her family.
Gina was a natural and creative parent who was willing to provide her family with all sorts of new and interesting experiences. For Gina, parenting was a particularly enjoyable and pleasurable part of her life. Gina's skill at understanding her daughter's feelings, her sensitivity to her needs, and her gift for gentle persuasion enabled her to find novel solutions to any problem or situation that might crop up. Gina was blessed with one child, Ava. There were countless trips to the Zoo, Botanica gardens and a trip to Las Vegas with Ava. Ava had a wonderful time at Circus-Circus. Gina and Phil Reimer took Ava to Beaver lake where all had a great time. She loved Ava dearly, and showered her with gifts, travel and new experiences.
Gina's primary occupation was homemaker. She was employed part time at Dairy Queen for a couple of years.
Her favorite pursuits were traveling, friends, and "World Of Warcraft". She enjoyed horseback riding and swimming. As a teen, another favorite past time of Gina's was going to the Wichita dog track with her Grandpa and Mom and Dad. Gina's Grandpa Gene was very dear to her, she always spoke fondly of him and she never quite got over his passing. Gina had spent a great deal of time helping her Grandpa while he was terminally ill by running errands for him and cleaning his house.
Gina had a love of traveling. Her favorite vacations were ones that were not planned. Traveling in a casual manor fit her personality well. Excited about seeing changing scenery and constantly looking for the enjoyment life could offer, Gina took her vacations seriously, well, as seriously as she possibly could. Favorite vacations included cruises and Las Vegas.
Gina was a lover of animals and cherished her pets. Milo, a Siamese cat, was a best friend for 9 years. Her family was rounded out by lots of cats, including Milo, Libby, Jasper, Charlie and Polo, and Freddie the dog. Her pets even include a rabbit and a ferret when she was young. Her least favorite was Beamer, a miniature Macaw who she didn't get along with. He was extremely loud and aggressive in play.
Gina Gregory passed away on February 5, 2013 at Wesley Hospital in Wichita, Ks. Gina had fought a battle against alcoholism. Gina's family and many friends watched helplessly as alcohol slowly took her from us. Her family and many or her friends begged her to get help. She tried AA and even spent a brief time at Valley Hope treatment center. She is survived by her daughter, Ava, her husband, Jeremiah Gregory, parents, Karen and Larry Eilert, and Larry Weaver of Wichita; step-sister Alyssa Weaver of Wichita; sister-in-law, Emily Gregory of Wichita; uncles Doug Cusick of Wichita; James Weaver of Phoenix, Ax; aunt Leimauna Martin of Wichita; nieces, Isabelle Gregory and Jocelyn Gregory. There was always a certain style and inventiveness to Gina. She was a dynamic, self-expressive person who was forever looking to celebrate the endless possibilities life had to offer. She had a knack for being clever, creative and witty, and for others, was a joy to be around. While she was often fiercely independent, it seemed as if many others looked to Gina for her friendship and courage. Gina was always more than willing to share life’s experiences with her loved ones. During the last week of her life, when Gina knew she didn't have long to live, many noticed her longing looks and glances at her daughter Ava. She had great hopes for Ava.
