When asked for one word that would best describe Peggy Omo, “sunshine” comes to mind with “stubborn” as a very close second. However, never stubborn in a bad way, rather stubborn in a way that meant she volunteered at The Clothes Closet until the week she passed. Stubborn in that she was upset that her grandson-in-law was raking the leaves that she wanted to rake that same week. Stubborn in that she waited to pass until her entire family was surrounding her for her last Sunday dinner on February 26, 2023, at the age of 86.
Peggy, better known as “Gram,” was sunshine to all that knew her. She made life beautiful in all aspects. Gram always had fresh flowers on the table, a flower tucked behind her ear, and gardens that were perfectly manicured. A Master Florist by trade and talent, Gram was greatly known in the community for being one of Wichita’s greatest florists. How great, you ask? Rose Bowl florist, Kirstie Alley and Charles Koch’s decorator, great. Her floral career started at West Side Flower Shop and ended recently at Dean’s Designs.
Despite being a true floral genius, being a mother and grandmother were her true callings in this life. She rarely missed a single event for her kids or grandkids, always welcomed everyone with a hug, and never parted without making it known just how much she loved you. She didn’t know a stranger, and anyone that walked into her house was made to feel like they were and always had been a part of her family. She started the tradition of family Sunday dinner over 40 years ago because she wanted to be surrounded by family; a tradition that still lives on today. She spent 64 years married to her high school sweetheart, Cliff. Together, they raised 3 boys, 12 grandchildren, and 27 great grandchildren, who carry on her legacy of independence, work ethic, and faithfulness.
Peggy was born in Dodge City, Kansas on April 2, 1936 to Elizabeth and Noble Kline; the eldest of five.
