Douglas Ave. Ken, born February 23rd, 1924, near Knob Noster, Missouri, was the youngest of eight children. He enrolled in college in the Fall of 1942 at CMSTC in Warrensburg, MO, but his educational goals were put on hold when he enlisted in the US Navy. Ken proudly served his country from July, 1943, until August, 1946. It was during weekend leave in 1943 that he met the love of his life and his future wife, Betty Jo Rodgers. They were married August 3rd, 1946, and most recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. In the Fall of 196, Kenneth returned to college and soon collected the first of many degrees. Ken spent 38 years as an elementary and high school teacher and school administrator at many schools in the Wichita area. He retired from the Wichita School District in 1985. Kenneth was baptized at the age of 11 and, long after retirement, continued his service to the Lord by teaching Vacation Bible School and adult Sunday School, participating in church choir and holding bible study classes. Kenneth leaves behind a great legacy of faith, love for his family and public service. Preceding him in death were parents, Noah and Sarah Anderson, brothers Edgar, Ralph, Ora, Arthur, and sisters, May (Evans), Marie (Marti) and Sue (Anderson). Kenneth is survived by his loving wife, Betty; daughter, Becky Leonard (Randy) of Wichita, six grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established with Metropolitan Baptist Church.
