Norma was born and raised in Wichita, Kansas. She enjoyed her childhood home and west Wichita home for the rest of her life until she was diagnosed with Dementia and probable ALZ. She was predeceased by her parents Samuel and Ethel Shiblom, her brothers, Clifford (Christine), Robert (Glenda) and Kenneth (Maxine) Shiblom and her wonderful cousin Margaret Presley whom she adored. She also was predeceased by her husband Hubert “Hugh” Rohr. She is survived by her first husband Robert Foster (Kay), her children Robert Michael “Mike” (Anna) Foster of Wichita and Martin Foster of Palm Springs, CA, stepson John (Theresa) Rosa, Teresa (Tony) Arneson of Star, Idaho.Grandchildren Karly Arneson (NYC), Sven Arneson (Missoula, MT) and 2 Step Sons Stephan and Brent Rohr additionally her nephews Sam, Clifford Jr. and Larry Shiblom.
Norma took 2 years of Business trade school in Wichita. She enjoyed her long employment with 4th National Bank/Bank IV, and Slawson Oil Company in Personnel & Payroll. She retired from Bank IV where she had made lifelong lasting friendships. Norma had a sweet spirit and loved people. She often welcomed an additional teen needing a home. She loved animals and many were added to the home through the years, with one of her favorite being her cat Tiger. The home turned into a gathering place, where kids would turn the basement into a tumbling gym, poster painting studio, dance party or even a girl Beatle group or the Monkees. The garage was a Part-time Band practice hang-out for her older son’s music group and the backyard a Homing Pigeon hobby both of her sons enjoyed. She was full of patience, generous and kind to all who she would come in contact with. A sense of humor was one of her great traits too, which was much needed with all the shenanigans going on.
Norma enjoyed singing and was part of the “Funtastics” singing group, she enjoyed playing cards with friends, camping, lifelong sewing and crafting, oil painting, reading and travel. She had quite the collections of Angels and some she made herself. Her and husband Hugh had a group of friends they square danced with. Family dinners and holidays were of great importance as well as her Christian Faith and attending Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church.
Norma will be missed greatly by all who knew her. In lieu of flowers Donations may be made to Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church or American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Funeral service will be held 1pm Friday, November 20 at Resthaven Mortuary, 11800 W Hwy 54, Wichita KS.
