Nancy graduated from high school in Lexington, Nebraska at age 16 and moved to Wichita in 1959 to attend Wichita Business College studying accounting. On October 13, 1972 she married Lonnie Kenneth Wood, Sr. in Wichita, Kansas. They were married on Friday the 13th much to chagrin of others who said it was a bad omen but they figured they would chance it. Over the next 50 years, they persevered through the happiest and toughest of times and everything in between. They did this with love, support, and a lot of questionable humor. They raised five children, had 12 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren.
Nancy was quick witted and could come with a sharp tongue but she valued intelligence and had compassion for others. Nancy was a force to be reckoned with when she felt it was necessary and a fierce ally to have on your side. She could hold a room captive and if you didn't love her, you respected her.
Nancy had numerous employment as an accountant and business manager including working for Dan and Frank Carney. Nancy spent the last two decades of her employment working as a legal secretary for numerous law firms, spending the majority of her career with Morris, Laing, Evans, Brock, Kennedy, Chtd. until her retirement in 2003.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Tommy Matthies.
Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Lonnie Wood, Sr.; children, Lonnie Wood, Jr., Christopher and wife, Linda Wood, Thomas and wife, Abby Wood, Meredith and husband, Randy Smith, Wesley Wood; grandchildren, Isabel and Aaron Wood, Nathalia and Andres Camacho, Emily and Anthony Wood, Lauren, Abby and Kyle Wood, Anissa, Michael and Jonathan Wood, Brayden and Kylie Wood; 2 great grandchildren.
