Margaret "Earlene" Halstead

Margaret "Earlene" Halstead, age 80, retired Administrative Assistant with USD 259, passed away on Sunday, March 5, 2023. Earlene was born on February 17, 1943 in Wichita, Kansas the daughter of Earl Leroy and Dorothy Jean (Stringer) Boyce.

When she was in the 8th grade she met the love of her life, Willis Halstead. They later married on March 10, 1962 in Wichita, Kansas.

Earlene was a graduate of South High School, class of 1961. After high school, she attended Emporia State University. Willis and Earlene moved to San Diego, California for him to join the Navy, where he served for four years. After his honorable discharge they returned to Wichita and she opened a daycare, which she ran for five years.

In 1987, Earlene started her career with USD 259, where she worked at many of the Wichita schools. Her last position, prior to retirement was at Sowers Alternative High School.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband.

Survivors include her sons, Jeff and wife, Brenda Halstead of Texoma, TX, Michael and wife, Grace Halstead of Homer, Alaska, Eric Halstead and fiance, Nicole Kendall of Cocoa Beach, Florida; siblings, Larry and wife, Joy Boyce, Judy and husband, Tom Poust, Colleen and husband, Bill Jackson; grandchildren, Jeffrey, Joshua, Dustin and wife, Rachel, Emilia, Evan, Ava, Jalyn, Dominic, Michael and Connor; great grandchildren, Zavannah, Bradley and Hudson.

Visitation will be an hour prior to the service. Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 11, 2023 at Resthaven Mortuary Chapel, 11800 W. Highway 54, Wichita. Interment will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory, Garden of Gospels.

A memorial has been established with The Kansas Food Bank.
