Kristina “Kristy” Marie McMickin, admired as a pillar of strength, bravery and compassion, peacefully passed away on November 12, 2024. Kristy was born on her mother’s birthday, December 17, 1982, in Wichita, Kansas. Kristy was known for her warmth, generosity, and her undeniably loving spirit. All who knew her could feel the love that constantly poured from her heart. Kristy graduated from Goddard High School in 2001. Kristy had a long, fulfilling career at Celebrity Cruises. Kristy earned the title of mother when she had her son, Devon, on September 13, 2004 and Haylie, on August 1, 2006. Kristy married the love of her life, Christopher McMickin, on November 6, 2015.
Kristy lived her life for her children. She was their biggest fan, best friend and supporter. She was beyond proud of them. She had so much love to give that she became the “second mother” to many, welcoming them with open arms. Her passion in life was ensuring that her children and all she loved, knew how much love she had for them.
Kristy’s health journey started in 2018 when she was first diagnosed with cancer. Despite this devastating news, Kristy was determined that was not going to be the end of her story. She fought and conquered that battle. In 2022, Kristy received the news that her cancer had returned. She again fought and conquered cancer, however this time, this battle opened a door for numerous health ailments. After fighting tirelessly, these ailments became too much for her and she made the very courageous decision to stop medical intervention. Kristy entered into hospice where she peacefully transitioned into Heaven with family by her side.
Kristy will be lovingly remembered by her children, Devon Hutto and Haylie Hutto of Wichita, KS. Her bonus child, Peyton Hutto of Wichita, KS. Her husband Christopher McMickin of Wichita, KS. Her father Barry Johnson of Goddard, KS. Her mother Kimberly Blair of Wichita, KS. Her bonus mother, Karen Johnson of Wichita, KS. Her sisters, Andrea (TC) Bodwell of Wichita, KS, Kara (Dustin) Suffield of Derby, KS, and Cynthia (Steven) Stabler of Wichita, KS. Her bonus sisters, Aspen Fanning and Sadie Hubbard of Wichita, KS. Her step-children, AnnaLee Sparks of Corinth, MS, Kelsie McMickin of Wichita, KS and Andrew McMickin of Fulton, MS. Her grandchildren, Lylah, JaKayden, and Khyson White of Corinth, MS. Her mother-in-law Teresa Sharer of Cordova, TN. Her sister-in-law, Chasity (Joseph) Baroni of Brandon, MS. Her aunt Dana Kraft of Goddard, KS. Uncle Bill (Elaine) Johnson of Wichita, KS. Nieces Bryttan Samaniego, Ruby Bodwell and Zoey Stabler all of Wichita, KS. Nephews Brody Bodwell and Benjamin Stabler of Wichita, KS; Jaiden, Gabriel, and Camryn Suffield of Derby, KS, and numerous cousins.
Kristy is reunited in Heaven with her grandparents, Ruth and Charles Johnson and Donald Blair, her aunt Regina Trapp, her uncles Craig Trapp, Butch Kraft and Randy Blair, her father-in-law Jeff McMickin, along with many other loved ones throughout her life.
A celebration of life will take place at Resthaven Mortuary and Gardens of Memory on Tuesday November 19th at 1:00 pm. Those wishing to pay their respects and celebrate her life are welcome. If you’d like to make a donation in her memory, her family has chosen St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. This hospital’s mission meant the world to Kristy.
Kristy’s loss will be deeply felt among all who loved her. Her memory will continue to live on and inspire strength, resilience and generosity in those whose lives she has greatly impacted. Kristy leaves us with one of her favorite quotes, “Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.” - Albus Dumbledore; Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
