In 1935, he moved to Wichita where he attended East High. Kenny served during WWII in the US Navy as an aircraft carrier gunner and participated in the Battle of Leyte Gulf and in the Battle of Luzon where his ship was sunk by Kamikaze. After his military service, he returned to Wichita and worked for the DeCoursey Dairy Company. He then owned and operated his retail liquor store next to the Uptown Theater until his retirement.
Kenny was preceded in death by his wife, LaDona (Hilyard) to whom he was married for 62 years and his son, David Schumaker. He is survived by his son, Grant (Kathy) Schumaker, and his granddaughter, Virginia Thornton, as well as 4 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.
Services will be held at 1pm on Saturday, October 29th and viewing on Friday, October 28th from 4-8 pm at Resthaven Mortuary, 11800 West Highway 54, Wichita KS. Kenny had a good time for a long time on borrowed time and he will be missed.
