Katherine Ursula Haas Haggard

Haggard, Katherine Ursula Haas was born February 16, 1930 in Wichita, Kansas. She passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2015 in her own home in Wichita, amid her loving family. Katherine was the daughter of Samuel Christian Haas, Sr. and Mary Ursula Egan. She attended grade school in Ingersoll, OK and graduated in Cherokee, Oklahoma’s Class of 1948. Growing up on a farm, Katherine helped with chores and learned to drive the tractor. Following her family’s tradition, Katherine chose Oklahoma A & M for her education. (Her father, aunts and uncles had all been Aggies.) Katherine completed a business course after which she started her career in Wichita. On October 16, 1950, Katherine and Afton L. (“L.C.”) Haggard were joined in marriage in Arkansas. Two children were born to this union—James Samuel and Mary Katherine but the marriage ended in divorce. Katherine was an active businesswoman, sharing bookkeeping experience with Wichita Builders, O.K. Transfer, Kansas Board of Education and finally Haggard & Son Delivery which she owned and managed for thirty-eight years. Proceeding her in death are her parents, grandparents and brother, Chris. Surviving are Katherine’s children: Jim and Nancy Haggard, Wichita; and Mary and Dana Gehrer of Kansas City, MO. Her loving companion and business partner, Richard (“Moose”) Eggleston of Wichita also survives. Remaining grandchildren are: AmyRenee Cohen (Matt), Wichita; Lisa Dixon of Kansas City; Jamie Mainzer of Wichita; and Kimberly Peterson of Wichita. Many great-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren survive in addition to three great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. One sister-in-law, Bonnie Haas of Stillwater, Oklahoma also survives. Friends and family are invited to a visitation at Resthaven Mortuary, 119th and Kellogg in Wichita 4:00 – 8:00 p.m., Thursday, April 2, 2015. Funeral services will be conducted at Resthaven on Friday, April 3, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. The family suggests charitable contributions to Addison’s Army Against Melanoma or Alzheimer’s Research.
