Joseph M Gallegos, age 98, of Wichita, Kansas passed away on Monday, September 11, 2023. Joe was born September 5, 1925 to the parents of Cresencio and Cruz (Molina) Gallegos in Wichita KS. Joseph joined the Army on January 3, 1944 at Ft. Leavenworth Kansas He served in the E Company 253rd Infantry regiment 63rd Infantry Division. He served in the Rhineland and Central Europe campaigns as a 745 Rifleman. Joseph earned the American Theater Ribbon, EAMET Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, a Bronze Star and a Victory Ribbon. His highest grade held was a PVT. First Class. Joseph was honorably discharged April 25, 1946. After his time in the military Joe worked for the City of Wichita as a parking meter shop supervisor for over 25 years.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Andrew Gallegos, Delores "Floyd" Gallegos and Gabriel Gallegos, sisters; Jessie Gallegos, Laura Gallegos and Betty Gallegos, Daughters; Debbie Gallegos and an infant girl.
Joseph is survived by his sons; Jeremy (Dynna) Gallegos, John Gallegos and Mark (Cindy) Gallegos, daughters; Michelle (Brant) Wesbrook and Demetria McMasters as well as 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
A graveside service for Joseph will be held Thursday, September 14, 2023 from 1:00 PM at Kansas Veterans Cemetery, 1208 N College St, Winfield, KS 67156.
