John Paul Strain II, age 59, of Goddard, Kansas passed away on Wednesday, December 7, 2022 in Wichita, Kansas after a heroic fight with cancer. John was born on May 22, 1963 in Newton, Kansas. He attended Newton High School and worked at the local Dillon's as a Stocker, as well as his father's roofing company during the summers.
After graduation he continued the next 44 years working at Dillon's, with the last 19 years serving as a Store Manager. He was well respected throughout the company, earning multiple performance awards and mentoring many associates throughout the years.
He will be remembered for his sense of humor, generous heart, model work ethic and kind disposition. John enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling, golfing, fishing, cooking and would arguably hustle anyone who would play him in a game of pool.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, John and Marjorie Strain; maternal grandparents, Edwin and Vivian Smith; father, John Paul Strain; step-mother, Opal Sophia Strain; and step-father, Fred Gough.
John is survived by his wife, Katrina of Goddard; mother of his children, Rhonda Strain of Wichita; mother, Joyce Gough of Newton; children, Garrett Strain and spouse, Shannon, Derek Strain, Derek Ast, Amy Ast all of Wichita; sisters, Tammie and spouse, Ken Hall, Tracie Strain and spouse, Lynn Lalouette, Terri Reimer, Erin McDaniel, all of Newton; step-sisters, Brenda McCourry, Cristie Likins both of Newton, Traci Chiarelli of Grouton, Connecticut, Sandy Clark of Waskom, Texas; step-brothers, Doug Likins of Lawrence, Curt Gough of Pleasant Hill, Missouri; grandchildren, John Paul Strain III and Ember Strain.
Come and Go visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, December 12, 2022 and 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 13, both at Resthaven Mortuary, 11800 West Highway 54, Wichita. In accordance with John's directives, no services will be held.
