Jerry Dean Raines, 63, Boeing engineering manager, died June 27, 2010 of complications after a bone marrow transplant. Jerry was born June 14, 1947 in Beaver, OK to Bill and Ruby Raines, spending his early childhood in Oklahoma, Washington and Idaho. The family settled in Haysville in 1956 where Jerry graduated from Campus High School in 1965. Jerry married Judy Payne Oct. 17, 1969 and the couple welcomed daughter Michelle on Sept. 21, 1970. He worked two fulltime jobs as a draftsman at Cessna and Koch Industries while attending Wichita State University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1979. Employed by Boeing Military Airplanes in 1981, Jerry was lead engineer in the KC-135 electrical mod group for several years until March 2001, when he was named manager of the B-52/KC-135 Electronics & Avionics group.
On Sept. 1, 1995, Jerry married Pauletta Reilley Duden. Together they enjoyed their blended family, pool parties and holiday gatherings, Friday night movie dates and trips to Mexico, New Zealand, Australia and France. Among his talents and interests, Jerry was an accomplished photographer, woodworker and computer guru who loved reading, gardening and spending time with his grandchildren. His easygoing nature earned him many dear friends, a real go-to guy.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Pauletta; daughter Michelle Horst, her husband Grant, grandchildren Sam and Delaney, Olathe, KS; brother, Barry Raines, Haysville; stepdaughters Rebecca Duden; Bonnie Duden Foster & husband, Doug Foster, Wichita; In-laws Kent & Nora Reilley, Wichita; Maureen Downing, Springdale, AR; Pam & Leon Mazanec, Larkspur, CO; Kelly & Shela Reilley, Aurora, CO; Jerry & Judy Oren, Wahpeton, ND; Wes & Izetta Rummel, Colby, KS; and many extended family members and friends.
