Jean N. Rice

Jean Rice completed this life’s journey on Feb. 5, 2017. She was a loving mother to three children and grandmother to 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was born May 7, 1927, in Hutchinson, KS, to A.C. and Lona Seevers but spent most of her formative years growing up in Conway Springs, where she met and later married the love of her life, Phillip Rice. With his Air Force career, they spent decades moving about the country and overseas before retiring in Colorado Springs. They fell in love with the city but after health issues, they moved back to Wichita in 1987 to be near family. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Phil , sister Glee Bayouth and brother-in-law Jack, and her uncle Jim Christie. She is survived by sons Michael (Sharon) Rice of Gascoyne, ND, Kim (Elaine) Rice of Wichita; daughter Lynn Wasinger of Wichita; “her third son” Rick (Maree) Christie of Salt Lake City, UT; grandchildren Megan Lippert of Wichita, Matthew Rice of Houston, TX, Shaun Rice of Rapid City, SD, Jared Rice of Austin, TX, Jeff Martin of Tampa, FL, Timothy Rice of Bismark, ND, Nick Wasinger of Boston, MA, Tracy Wasinger of Kansas City, KS, Alec Rice of Wichita, Andrew Rice of Wichita; nieces Jackie Bayouth (Shawn) of Ames, IA, and Kim Lorei (Greg) of Trophy Club, TX.

Visitation with family and friends will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 13, at Riverside Christian Church with services following at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Conway Springs Cemetery. Memorials have been established with Riverside Christian Church, 1001 N. Litchfield, Wichita, KS 67203, and Good Shepherd Hospice, 7829 E. Rockhill, Suite 403, Wichita, KS 67206.
