Jane Gillespie Eckerman passed away on Sunday, December 4th, 2016. She was born May 20th, 1928 in Bartlesville, OK to Ralph and Martha Engels and later adopted by her mother’s second husband Fred Gillespie. She attended high school in Royal Oak, MI, junior college at Gulf Park College in Gulfport, MS and graduated from Northwestern University, Evanston, IL in 1951 with a degree in English. After college, she returned to Atlanta, GA where she worked for several years before meeting Charles R. “Bob” Eckerman, a lieutenant and navigator in the U.S. Air Force. They were married in Atlanta December 20th, 1958. They had two children while stationed in Germany: Joan “Jody” Eckerman Webster, a programmer analyst, and Brent R. Eckerman, an architect. Jane was a busy homemaker, a committed volunteer, and a good wife, mother, and friend. She so loved the beach and moved to Miramar Beach, FL in 1996 where she lived until health concerns moved her closer to her family in Wichita, KS. She is preceded in death by her parents and survived by her husband Bob of 57 years; sister-in-law Marilyn Eckerman Newman (Gordon Newman), daughter Jody (Tom Webster, Jr.) and son Brent; grandchildren Caitie, Megan, and Brad Webster and “granddog” Oliver, whom she loved very much. A memorial service is scheduled at Larksfield Assisted Living, 2727 N. Rock Rd., Wichita, KS 67226 on Friday, December 23rd, 2016 at 1:00 pm. Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be made in Jane’s name to the American Cancer Society. Sympathy cards for Bob can be addressed to him and sent to the address above specifying Apt. #216.
