Jake Robert Kirkland, 96, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on Friday, March 7, 2025. He was born November 17, 1928 in Alamosa, Colorado, the son of Walter "Jack" Martin and Eddith Lee (Wortham) Kirkland.
Jake spent four years serving in the United States Navy where he worked in the engine room on the U.S.S. McCaffery. After returning home from the Navy, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Patricia Ann McMasters, on June 30, 1955 in Manila, Arkansas, and to this union four children were born, Steve, Tami, Doug, and Mark.
Jake owned and operated a mechanical contracting business in Wichita, Midland Mechanical Inc., retiring at the age of 55. He also had several real estate developments.
During his free time, he was an avid outdoorsman. Jake raised & trained English Pointer bird dogs, winning many field trial championships. His other hobbies included fishing, hunting and gardening.
He is preceded in death by: his parents, Jack and Eddith Kirkland; his loving wife, Patricia Kirkland; his son, Mark Kirkland; his brothers, Leon Kirkland, Ray Kirkland, and Don Kirkland; along with his sister, Opal Holland.
He is survived by: his children, Steve Kirkland, Tami (Scott) Applegate and Doug (Jodi) Kirkland; his brother, Tom Kirkland; his sisters, Ann Newsom and Kathy (Brian) MacInnis; his grandchildren, Brandi (Troy) Dusenbery, Bret (Erin) Kirkland, Kevin (Kristin) Kirkland, Ally Applegate, Jared (Kinzie) Kirkland, Alyssa Kirkland, and Claire (Austin) Greathouse; his great-grandchildren, Regan Dusenbery, Adler and Callum Greathouse; his caretaker, Lesley Kirkland; along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM ~ 7:00 PM on Thursday, March 13, 2025; Funeral Service will be 10:30 AM on Friday, March 14, 2025, both at Resthaven Mortuary, 11800 West Highway 54, Wichita, Kansas 67209. Interment will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory, Garden of Prayer, Wichita.
