Candy and family,
I felt more like a family member than a caregiver.

Pam had dad's dry sense of humor. Mike the Mr. Fix-it.  Penny had his stare, always looking around.  You Candy had his generosity.  And you all had his thick head of hair.

My heart will always remember Gerald or shall I say "Dad".

Grandpa Fraizer would come to town on Saturday evenings and bring Aunt Lucille's three older children Gene, Hazel, and Helen. He would come by and get Gerald and me. He would take us all to the show downtown. While we were in the show Grandpa would visit on Main Street where all the older folk would gather and visit. One Saturday we saw the Beast with Fire Fingers. That was the scariest show I ever saw. Mama said she didn't know who hit the door first Gerald or me that night when Grandpa let us out under the street light by our house. We talked about that show for the longest time. I don't think Grandpa thought anything about it being so scary at the time.


When I was a junior in high school I was the class queen for the yearbook and I needed a formal. Gerald came home one weekend and gave Mama $50.00 so I could buy one. It cost $35.00 at Christman's in Joplin. I wore that dress to every formal event after that. 

 

Gerald was a wonderful big brother and will be truly missed by all of us.

"It was, I think, spring of 1953.  Gerald had just gotten his license and the first place he took us kids was about 7 miles down a gravel road over to Oronogo.  It wasn't that far away but we had never been there before.  He took us to the Oronogo mine where we could walk up to the edge and look over the railing, down into this huge, deep hole.  We were able to watch them work and see the tiny, toy looking trucks at the bottom get bigger and bigger as they turned into big dump trucks bringing their loads to the top.  As a kid, that was a really big deal to me and I'm glad my brother took the time to take me to see it.

I also remember many Saturday nights, Gerald would take us to a place down on 10th and Main called The Burger Basket.  He worked at a shop near there and ate lunch there quite a bit. He thought us kids would like it and I did.  It was the first time I ever had onion rings and I have loved them ever since.  These may seem like simple memories, but to me they are examples of how Gerald loved and cared for us above and beyond a brother's duty."

I first had the pleasure of meeting Dora 
& Gerald in July of 2008 just a few months prior to their 50th wedding anniversary.  My Sacred Home was honored to be ask to help assist in their care over the last few years.  We enjoyed Dora & Gerald coming in together for cardiac rehab, they were such a delight on Gerald's good days he would race Dora on the stationary bike and if he won Dora could buy him lunch, on his weaker days he would claim he let Dora win, and when we ask Gerald what he was buying Dora for lunch today, he'd just say Dora has the check book.

I can't begin to tell you how inspiring it was to watch the two of them interact.  Without a doubt you knew this was TRUE LOVE.

I also know that Gerald was an excellent father.  In his time of need each of his children came to his rescue.  Thank you again for allowing My Sacared Home to participate in his care, we will greatly miss Gerald's  smiling Face.

So sorry to hear of your Dad's passing.  I didn't meet him, but as special as you are, he must have been a great Dad.  Losing someone you love so much, takes a part of you with them when they die.  Times does help with loss, and memories become more precious.

Dad,
I remember as a child, we as a family would get in the mustang on Saturday nights and go to the post office to mail bills and go put gas in the car for the week. Sometime we would get to stop at the Dairy Queen for ice cream.

Watching you as I was growing up, I took note on how you always put others first and how unselfish you were. 

I feel so blessed to have had you for my Dad.  I will cherish all the talks that we shared.  The past 8 years of helping to take care of you was something very special I will hold in my heart forever.  I LOVE YOU and MISS YOU GREATLY.

Pam, Mike, Candy and Penny and all of his beautiful grandchildren think of all the wonderful times you had with him. Now he is in Gods hands and no more pain. We will all miss him I loved him like he was my dad, he did so much for me and Rod and my family. But we need to be strong for your mom she will need all of us.
