Gale was blind but refused to consider this a disability or let it stop her from living life to the fullest. She was in pep club in high school, golfed, and even tried water skiing. She worked as a CNA at Children’s Mercy, providing care to infants in isolation. In college she spent 6 weeks traveling through Europe with a group of college students from across the US.
Gale raised her two daughters as a single parent but ensured they wanted for nothing. She taught them compassion and love for all through her work as a case manager for disabled individuals at KETCH. She retired in 2014 but maintained a close connection with several of her clients and their families up until her passing. Gale was frugal to a point and turned it into a personal competition of how low she could get her utility bills to go. She carried this over to her burial plan where she often joked about wanting to be in the cheapest pine box because it didn’t really matter, and she didn’t want to waste the money on anything fancy. Gale spent the last weeks of life surrounded by her family and favorite hospice nurse Mary, sharing jokes and memories. As Gale would say, the ball finally dropped at 6:21 pm on 6/21. Gale had a penchant for numbers and her family states that they are not surprised at all that her date and time of passing were the same. It was one final laugh she gave her loved ones.
She is preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by everyone else, as Gale would say. However, those people closest to her that survive her are her amazing daughters, Stephanie (Wyatt) Williams, and Erica (Scott) Dodge; sisters, Kandy (Larry) Wepler and Gay (Ronnie) Ranes; and her favorite people, of course, her grandchildren, Nolan and Aubree Williams, Garryn and Parker Plummer, and Caleb Dodge; and her great-grandchildren, Isla and Willow Dodge.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate in her memory to KSDS, where she received her seeing eye dogs, Carson, Muggs, and Trick.
