On May 15, 1948 she married Charles Clyde Hargrave in Brownfield, Texas. To their marriage, five children, Sandra Kay, Joy Lynn, Kathy Gail, Rose Charlene and John Mark, were born. She was a devoted wife and mother.
Clyde and Joy spent their lives serving the Lord wherever he called them, including many years in Central America, serving as missionaries. She was a great prayer warrior and would not hesitate to stand in prayer for anyone at any time.
Joy was also affectionately known by family and friends as Tot, Mamacita, and Granny. She had a great sense of humor and was very quick witted. There was never a dull moment, when she was around. Tot had her own language. She used words like "extry" and "hairlettuce", which we all knew translated to extra and hilarious. Tot was an amazing seamstress and liked making her own clothes. Each one of her family members had their own special memory with her that they will cherish. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Clyde; two sons-in-law, Frank Shira and Jim Hoffman; brother Lewis Brown; and her sister Verna Jo Hargrave.
Joy is survived by her five children, Kay Hoffman, Joy Shira, Kathy and Mike Nye, Charlene and William Braden, John and Laura Hargrave; her brother Bennie and LaDean Brown. Granny will also be missed by her fourteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
