Emma Mickley, age 102, passed away on Monday, October 16, 2023, at Catholic Care Center of Bel Aire, Kansas. She was born September 4, 1921, in Ira, Missouri, the daughter of Charlie and Sarah Ann (Allen) Nutter.
Emma grew up in the Lebanon, Missouri area, where she was raised, and attended local schools. She was united in marriage to S.C. Owens, where five children were born, Shirley Ann, James Lee, Janice Lynn, George William "Bill", and Michael Duane.
After Emma's first husband passed, she was later united in marriage to Nyle S. Mickley on August 15, 1975. Nyle and Emma enjoyed traveling to different places all over the United States in their motorhome until his passing in 1988.
Emma enjoyed gardening, watching football, and was an exceptional cook as she made a variety of different foods for the holidays for her family. Her biggest joy was spending time with her family. She will always be remembered and missed greatly.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; her son, James Owens; her daughter, Shirley Ann Jones; her grandsons, Jason Owens and Danny Gattis; her great-granddaughter, Damisha Hull; her brothers: Bart, Lee, James, Joe, and Chester; and her sisters: Lucy Nutter, Effie West, Amy Nutter, and Opal Klemin.
She is survived by: her children, Janice Gattis, George William "Bill" Owens, and Michael Owens; her sister, Geneva Retkofsky; along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and fur babies who filled her life with love.
Visitation will be held 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 21, 2023; with the Funeral Service following at 10:00 AM, both at Resthaven Mortuary Chapel, 11800 W. US-54 Highway, Wichita, Kansas. Interment will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory, in the Garden of Bruce Newton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Emma's name may be designated to Kansas Humane Society or to The Alzheimer's Association.
