Hall, Emily Jean. Jean was born on October 22, 1937, in Bald Knob, Arkansas to William and Emily Bressie. She had two sisters, Nadine and Margaret and two brothers, William Jr. and Lonnie. She grew up knowing hard work, picking strawberries and cotton. She did well in school, always had a knack for math and competed in basketball in high school.
She met Billy through relatives that lived on the farm where Billy grew up. As the old saying goes, it was love at first sight. They were married on Christmas Day, 1954. She and Billy moved to Wichita, where jobs were more plentiful. It was in Wichita where they saved their money in order to build their own home. There they raised two sons, Jeff and Mark. It was a great place to grow up in. Jean was a friend to everyone that she met. She was active as a den mother for Jeff in Cub Scouts. Mark had an interest in cooking, which Mother was more than happy to teach him. He still holds that interest today.
She worked at Commercial Vending as a bookkeeper for five years. With her interest in mathematics, she later began teaching math, both at Hadley Jr. High and North High and retired after twenty-one years. She completed college level courses to instruct algebra.
She also kept busy with work in the church. Her greatest joys were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. As a special note all of the grandchildren had four birthdays a year. That way no one felt left out. Just as an example of the love she had for her family. After retiring she and Billy traveled a lot, seeing many of the national parks. They were married for 68 years at the time of her passing.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Nadine, her brothers William Jr. and Lonnie, her grandson Cory Lee Hall (Jeff and Linda’s son), her brother-in law and sister-in-law, Al and Rena Hall, and her brother-in-law Joe Baughman.
She is survived by her husband, Billy, sons, Jeff (Linda Hall Wisley), Mark (Paula) Hall, and her four grandchildren, Brian Hall, Lacy Hall (Matt) Lang, Nick (Sara) Hall and Destiny Hall (Romi) Larios. Her four great-grandchildren are Josie Hall, Luke Hall, Lexi Hall and Bentley Billy Hall. She is also survived by her sister, Margaret Litaker, sister-in-law, Linda Gail Hall Baughman and several nieces and nephews.
She was very happy to be a member of Bridgeport Missionary Baptist Church and loved by all the members there. Emily Jean Hall will be missed, but she looks down from Heaven above.
A special thanks goes out to Comfort Care Homes (Armour House) staff and management, for their care and compassion.
