Elizabeth "Betty" Ann (Young) Hill, age 90, passed away on Wednesday, January 11, 2023. She was born on January 21, 1932 in rural Kingman County, the 8th of 9 children of Bessie May (Baldock) and Franklin Leroy Young.
Betty attended Ritchey Country School until 5th grade, Cheney Schools 6th through 8th, and then Kingman High School where she graduated in 1950. She went to Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas where she met the love of her life, George Robert Hill from Kiowa, Kansas. After George graduated, they married in 1951 and George was drafted. He joined the Air Force and was in the Korean Conflict. He was stationed in New Mexico where their only child, Gregory Scott Hill was born in 1954. The family then moved to Lawrence, Kansas where George received his Masters in Chemistry. George was hired by Phillips Petroleum which took them to Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Houston, Texas, California and then to Greenville, South Carolina where they retired in 1978.
Betty enjoyed attending Greg's activities, but was most proud of his swim team accomplishments while at Sooner High School in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Betty loved to entertain guests and was an avid Bridge player. Even after she was injured in a serious car accident in 2008, which made it difficult for her to get around; she adjusted by becoming an online Bridge player. Her opponents were from all over the world, including one from Israel.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George in 1996; son, Gregory Scott Hill in 1973 (at age 19); siblings, James "Leroy", Laura "May" Fansher, Elton, Burneta Adair, Quinten, Ruth Estes, Wilda "Billie" Conner, Frank "F.L.", Jr.
Survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 21, 2023 at Cheney Methodist Church. Inurnment will be at a later date at Memorial Park Cemetery, Bartlesville, Oklahoma
