Dorothy Jean Long

Dorothy Jean (Pierce) Long, 76, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2023 from Frontotemporal Degeneration. She was born on May 27, 1947 in Kennett, Missouri to the late Ernest and Alma (White) Pierce.

Dorothy graduated from Lyons High School, then attended Kansas State Teachers College of Emporia.

She was a devoted wife to Jefry Long for 56 years and a loving mother to their two children, Vicki Gail and Matthew Gleeman.

She held a variety of jobs, including working at Iowa Beef Packers, TG&Y Variety Store, childcare, MetLife Computer Center, and running an antique booth. She spent the last years of her life as a homemaker, enjoying her three cats, Casper, Gizmo, and Alley.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Jim Pierce, Ernie Pierce, Junior, and Stephen Pierce. She is survived by her husband Jef of Mulvane, Kansas, children Vicki of Dallas, Texas and Matt of Berlin, Germany, and sisters Gwen Hogg of Lyons, Kansas and Debbie Cookson of Boulder, Colorado.

A graveside service in Sterling, Kansas will be delayed until the end of October.
