Doris E. Campbell, age 89, of Wichita, Kansas passed away on Monday, September 16, 2024 at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Hiawatha, Kansas. Doris was born at home in Frankfort, Kansas to Fred and Lillian (Rumsey) Shirley on January 14, 1935.
Doris graduated from Axtell High School in 1952. She moved to Wichita shortly after graduation and worked at Nash Finch, a wholesale food company. She got married in October of 1954 to Jack Edward Campbell. They had four children and then later divorced. She married Dewayne Lindquist many years later in 1993, and sadly would be widowed six months after marriage.
Doris worked for many years for Koch Oil. She retired in November of 1994 after 24 years being a Second Accounts Payables Clerk. She loved working there and was so proud of her job and she felt blessed to have a job with Koch. As a single mom, she was always grateful that she had a good job and income to raise her four children.
She loved antiques. And she loved her dog Amos. Doris loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and spending time with them most. She was always ready to celebrate and host at the holidays, and loved celebrating Thanksgiving and Christmas with her family.
She lived in Everest for the last 4 years of her life with her son and daughter in-law.
She was preceded in death by her husband Dewayne Lindquist; daughter, Diane Burke, son in-law Alan Stuever; siblings, Roy Shirley, Helen Kirk, Wayne Shirley, Bobby Shirley, Bernice DeNeve, Kenneth Shirley, and Dorothy Shirley.
Doris is survived by children, Jacquie Stuever, Cathy (Darrel) Waters, and David (Lori) Campbell; grandchildren, Heather Burke, Ashley Moser, Brandon Campbell, Amber Burke, Molly Burke, Tanner Campbell, Kayla Gormley, Katie Haynes, and Luke Stuever; 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and loving friends.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, September 19, 2024 from 5-7 p.m. at Hillside Funeral Home West, 2929 West 13th Street North, Wichita, KS 67203. The funeral service will take place on Friday, September 20, 2024, also at Hillside Funeral Home West, at 10:00 a.m. Committal will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, 12010 W. 109th St. W., Sedgwick, KS 67135.
