Diannia “Jean” Clark of Valley Center, Kansas passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 21, 2023, at the age of 78. She was born on November 10, 1944, in Rogers, Arkansas, and raised by loving parents Jack and Reba Smith.
As a young adult, Jean became a resident of New Hope Services in Valley Center, Kansas (formerly New Horizons) where she worked in the canteen and as part of the janitorial staff. Jean continued to come home for weekend visits which allowed her to catch up with family, listen to Elvis Presley records, watch soap operas and westerns on television, and drink coffee.
Jean stayed active at New Hope, participating in Special Olympics, making crafts, and forming close friendships with countless residents and staff members. Weekend stays became fewer over time, however she always looked forward to family visits which included: lunch, shopping for Cabbage Patch dolls, or just spending time in her apartment.
She is preceded in death by parents, Jack and Reba Smith of Wichita, Kansas; brother, Kip Smith of Wichita, KS; and sister, Wanda Sawyer of Andover, KS.
She is survived by her nephew, Kip Smith II of Towanda, KS; niece, Kendirley Smith of Park City, KS; and nephew, Jim Stork of Colorado Springs, CO.
The family would like to thank New Hope Services for the care and compassion they showed our loved one over her many years and especially in her final days of failing health.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in her honor to Special Olympics. https://support.specialolympics.org/a/legacy?ms=
