Rosary will be held on Friday, January 20, 2023 at 10:00am at St. Anthony of Padua Garden Plain, KS followed by a Mass of Christian burial. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at 1:00pm at the Garden Plain High School Auditorium.
He is survived by children Joshua, Chase, Amanda and Kal-El; grandchildren Aurora and Claire; parents: Tom and Mary Sandoval, brother Kevin Sandoval and Aunt Rebecca Baca; nieces and nephews Adrian Graves, Victoria Scrivo, Shelby Gallamore and Jackson Sandoval and many other family members and friends who were family. Damien was preceded in death by two brothers Richard and Steven Sandoval.
In his short 45 years of life Damien made an impact on many. He had such a charismatic personality that attracted so many and made it hard not to love him. Even in his hardest moments and the most dire circumstances he had a way of motivating those around him and making sure that everyone knew who he was. Damien graduated from Garden Plain High School and went on to college on a Yell Leading Scholarship. He was a very charismatic personality that allowed for numerous work opportunities. Whether he was serving tables or carrying out his DJ work, he was always somewhere doing something. Damien was very involved in the Wichita Softball community and ran numerous benefit tournaments for others. In 2017, a car accident left Damien barely alive. The end result of this accident left him a quadriplegic and a spinal cord injury. He worked hard to not only continue to survive but raise awareness for seat belt safety awareness. Above all else, he was a devoted Dad to his children and then grandchildren. He was an avid Sports fan, namely his Raiders NFL Team. He loved baseball and loved his Atlanta Braves. He was so honored to be taken to the World Series when the Braves played and then won the Series in 2021. This event was one of the highlights of his life and a bright spot as he battled terminal cancer. He was also a huge Superhero fan, namely Superman and pulled strength from this as he battled his health after his accident and during his cancer journey. He also enjoyed Sports Trivia and was quite a fanatic with sports facts.
Damien lived what many would call an unconventional life, so it’s not surprising that he created an unconventional family he loved more than anything. One of his greatest fears was that his children would be left with his burial expense once he was diagnosed with cancer. Fortunately, many have helped with some of that expense and he was forever grateful for those acts of kindness. Even though Damien's time on earth ended too soon, he chose to live each moment in a very full way. He was so grateful and felt very blessed to have his friends and family by his side during his life's journey.
