Claudia was born on December 11, 1946 in Elizabeth City, North Carolina to Claude and Marjory (Huey) Simpson. She grew up in Wamego, Kansas and eventually settled in Wichita, Kansas with her first husband Gary Simmons. They had two sons, Ryan and Troy. Claudia married Gerald 'Jerry' Barwick in 1991. Claudia and Jerry enjoyed living in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Kansas City, Missouri, and Haines City, Florida before the desire to be closer to family and friends ultimately brought them back to Wichita.
Claudia spent decades in real estate selling new homes and winning many awards for doing so. It came natural to her due to her fun and easy going personality. Her clients loved her, with many becoming friends. She was a cat lover and enjoyed their company during her adult life. She enjoyed travelling and playing golf with friends and family. She tried retirement life several times but always ended up bored so she worked until the very end.
Claudia was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Marjory. She is survived by her husband Jerry, two children, Ryan (and Nicole) of Clive, Iowa and Troy (and Ashley) of Goddard, Kansas, step-daughter Colleen Simat of Auburn Hills, Michigan, five grandchildren, Hunter, Brooke, Tommy, Travis, and Austin, and her brother Sid (and Glenda) of Kansas City, Missouri. Numerous other family members, friends, and her cats, Applebee and Rudy will fondly remember her.
A celebration of life will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 23, 2022 at The Reserve at Sandcrest Clubhouse, which is located at 2880 Curtis Street, Wichita, Kansas 6720.
