Schmidt, Charles, “Dwain”, 88, of Haysville, Kansas passed away peacefully on Thurs. Oct. 13, 2016 at home surrounded by family in Haysville. Charles was born the son of Frank and Tillie (Hahn) Schmidt on January 14, 1928 in Brock, NE. Charles served as a Tailor in the United States Army during WWII. Charles and Lois (Lechner) Schmidt were united in marriage on Nov. 9, 1947 in Nebraska City, NE. Charles attended Brock, NE high school and played basketball although his true love was football. He started attending the Husker games during junior high through the Knot Hole Gang. He became a season ticket holder in 1971 for Husker Football. Charles retired after 33 years from Boeing Aircraft in Wichita. Charles and his wife traveled to all 50 states. Charles and his wife owned and operated Lil Duffer in Haysville for over 20 years. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Lois Schmidt, grandson, Ty Stember, brother, Virgil Schmidt. Survivors include his loving children, Linda (Ken) Ratlief of Wichita, Steven Schmidt of Tacoma, WA, Nancy (Terry) Haskins of Haysville, Julie (Melinda) Schmidt of Haysville, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Wed. Oct. 19, 2016 from 6 to 8pm at Lakeview Funeral Home, 12100 E. 13th St. N., Wichita.. Funeral services will be 2pm on Thurs. Oct. 20, 2016 at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 3850 W. 71st St. South, Haysville, KS. Cremation will follow and a private family inurnment will be held at Lakeview Cemetery, Wichita at a later date. Memorials can be made to the Wichita Association for the Deaf, 1646 E. Central Ave., Wichita 67214.
