Cappy was born on December 7, 1928, to Roy and Mary (O’Hara) Blanton in Clearwater, Florida. Cappy grew up in that area and graduated from Clearwater High School in 1946. She went on to Florida State University, where she pledged Alpha Delta Pi and in 1950, graduated with a bachelor’s degree in education.
After college, Cappy moved to Washington DC with her best friend, Ann Martin. She had a close knit group of friends from college with which she took several trips, even into their 80’s. In 1952, Cappy married Don Tinker. After he graduated from law school, Don took a job in Wichita, Kansas where they raised their three children: Susan, Bob, and Sally.
Cappy had a very vibrant personality and loved meeting new and old friends. She especially enjoyed spending time with her children and was a tireless volunteer and supporter of all their activities, including Camp Fire Girls, Boy Scouts, music lessons and performances, sporting and academic events, you name it. She was also very involved in her church, Music Theatre of Wichita Guild, Project Beauty of Wichita, PEO, and Alpha Delta Pi Sorority.
True to her sunny and social persona, she became a licensed real estate agent in 1978 with Crown III Realtors. Many of her colleagues and clients became lifelong dear friends over her 30-year career. Her competitive drive and servant heart were just the right combination to become a successful agent, earning her production awards and several memorable trips over the years.
In 1982, Cappy married Andy Roberts. To her delight, that espousal greatly expanded their collective family, including a total of 48 grand and great-grandchildren over their 40-year marriage. The role of being a grandmother brought her much joy and she took great personal interest in their lives; nurturing and encouraging them just as she had done with her children. She leaves them all with a legacy of a sentiment for adventure, a love of travel, and a passion for lifelong learning. Her warm and playful nature is instilled in all those that were blessed to know her.
Cappy was preceded in death by: her husband, Andy Roberts; brother, Roy Blanton; daughter, Linda Roberts; son, David Roberts; and son-in-law, Jim Murphy.
Cappy is survived by seven children: Susan Brack, Bob (Rebecca Moore) Tinker, Sally Murphy, Sheryl Roberts, Steve (Cristie) Roberts, Randy (Terri) Roberts; daughter-in-law, Monica Roberts; 22 grandchildren; 25 great- grandchildren; and one great-great- grandchild.
The family of Cappy Roberts wants to extend heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Presbyterian Manor, Memory Care, for their loving care.
