Beverly Jean Campbell passed away surrounded by her family Friday, March 1, 2019. She is survived by her two sons, Gary and Kenneth Hepner; granddaughters, Stacy Rogers (Wes) and Tamber Hepner; and great-grandchildren Brandon Guilles, Wesley Rogers, and Vaughn Rogers.
Born June 20, 1929, Beverly lived a long and adventurous life that was rarely dull, from her time spent studying and traveling as a geologist, owning and running her own restaurant in Wichita, traveling around the country with her husband Dean and their exotic animal exhibit, owning and managing her own rental properties, and countless other journeys in between that left her with many stories to tell. As a retired geologist, Beverly told stories of her time working as a consultant on an oil rig, where she was in charge of deciding where to drill for oil and gas deposits. One story she told on multiple occasions was about a time when she had to shut down an entire rig upon recognizing a gas build-up, potentially saving the lives of everyone on the rig.
Beverly was a devout Christian woman who leaned on her faith both in times of need and in times of celebration. Long time member of Westside Christian Church and most recently attending Riverlawn Christian Church, she attended services every Sunday, but always made sure to attend the early service so that she would still have time to watch the Kansas City Chiefs play by noon. She would wear her favorite bright red Chiefs sweater every Sunday in hopes of bringing good luck to her favorite team.
Beverly was a caring mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who deeply loved her family. She had a big heart and was always willing to help anybody in need. Beyond her family, she loved swooning over babies as she volunteered for daycare duties at her local church. Beverly loved cooking for people; sometimes using recipes passed down by her mother, and would often make meals large enough to take to personal friends. Beverly was truly a kind soul and will be missed dearly.
A celebration potluck dinner for Beverly will be held Saturday, March 16, 2019, 12pm at The Pink Bubble, 4925 W. Central, Wichita. In lieu of flowers, please come share a memory with her family.
