Sister Anne Marie Meridier, (formerly Sr. Mary of Lourdes) a Sister of St. Joseph for 67 years, entered eternal life at Mount St. Mary Convent in Wichita, Kansas on April 8, 2024 at the age of 85. Sr. Anne was born on September 5, 1938 in New Orleans, Louisiana to the late Wilfred Francis Meridier and Olga Emily Bertus. Sr. Anne was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Fr. Wilfred Meridier, and her sister Joan Brierre. She is survived by her sister Joy Horton (Bill), her Brother-in -law Robert Brierre and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Sr. Anne graduated from St. Joseph Academy in New Orleans, Louisiana and entered the Sisters of St. Joseph On September 8, 1957. She professed Final Vows on July 30, 1965.
In 1962 Sr. Anne graduated from St. Mary’s Dominican College with at BS in Math and went on to complete a M.ED in Biology from North Carolina State in 1972 . She continued her education at St. Louis University where she earned certification in Educational Administration and in Spirituality from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska.
Sr. Anne’s life of service began at St. Joseph Academy in New Orleans and Baton Rouge where she served as teacher and later as Principal of St. Joseph Academy in New Orleans until she was called to serve on the Formation Team of the Sisters of St. Joseph from 1979 to 1983. Beginning in 1983 she served as Community Life Coordinator and Administrator at St. Joseph Provincial House in New Orleans, Louisiana. In June of 2002, Sr. Anne moved to Cincinnati, Ohio where she served as General Councilor of Sisters for the Congregation. Following a year long sabbatical, Sr. Anne worked with legal documents during her Congregations reconfiguration process. In June of 2009 She returned to Baton Rouge, Louisiana to serve as Coordinator of Sisters at the Congregations’ Hundred Oaks Retirement Center until her retirement in July of 2014. Throughout her years of service she served on several boards, including St. Joseph Academy in Baton Rouge and Congregational Finance Board.
In September of 2020, Sr. Anne moved to Mount St. Mary Convent in Wichita, Kansas where she continued to serve and be a prayerful presence as needed in the Villa and St. Joseph Hall Assisted Living until recently when changing health needs necessitated her moving to the skilled care unit at Mount St. Mary.
Homecoming will be at Mount St. Mary Resurrection Chapel on Friday, April 12, 2024 at 3:30 p.m. with Wake to follow at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Resurrection will be Saturday, April 13, 2024 at 9:00 a.m. at Mount St. Mary Resurrection Chapel with interment following in Sisters of St. Joseph Cemetery.
