Winnie F. Bardwell, 87, of Wichita Falls passed away Tuesday, February 5, 2013. Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, February 9, 2013 at Hampton Vaughan Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Terri Whitgrove officiating. Interment will follow in Crestview Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 Friday evening at the funeral home.
Mrs. Bardwell was born June 20, 1925 in Longworth, TX (Fisher County) to Carson R. Smauley and Ella Annie (Strobel) Smauley. She married James Bardwell on March 23, 1949 in Sweetwater, TX. A Methodist by faith, Mrs. Bardwell was employed by Southwestern Bell in Sweetwater, Lubbock and Wichita Falls in 1953, retiring in 1981 after 34 years of service. After retirement, she remained active in the Pioneers of America, various civic clubs and especially enjoyed bowling.
Mrs. Bardwell was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Ruby Gully in 1998 and a brother, Ted Smauley in 1987.
Survivors include her husband, James A. Bardwell of Wichita Falls; brother, Floyd A. Smauley and wife, Joyce of Baird, TX; nephew, David Smauley of Livermore, CA; nieces, Patricia ‘Sissie’ Aaron of Carthage, TX and Sheila Kidd of Abilene, TX; sister-in-law, Evelyn Smauley of Big Spring, TX and six cousins. Also, special friends, Donna Raymond and daughters, Kathy and Rebecca.
In lieu of usual remembrances, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Wichita Falls, 4909 Johnson Rd., 76310.
