Wayne Hembey

Wayne (Papa) Hembey passed from this world June 25, 2015. Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, June 30, 2015 in the Garden of Inspiration of Crestview Memorial Park under the direction of Hampton Vaughan. Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 Monday evening at the funeral home.

Wayne was born to Dexter and Rosie Hembey (the fifth of eight children) in Joshua, TX. He married Delva Lee Hubbard in Weatherford, TX in 1946. A longtime resident of Wichita Falls, he and Delva relocated here in 1949, where they eventually opened their businesses, Hembey’s Auto Service and Hi-Style Beauty Salon. An avid fisherman, bird hunter and excellent cook, Wayne was the patriarch of a large extended family, the cornerstone of a foundation which lives on in the succeeding generations.

Wayne was preceded in death by his wife Delva, seven siblings, and many longtime friends in the Wichita Falls area.

He is survived by his children and their spouses, Linda and Don Rakestraw and Rick and Naomi Hembey; grandchildren and spouses, Russell and Brenda Schmid, Lisa and Fred Bowles, Kerry and Alan Lakke, Chantelle and Tim Redman, Devin (Gavin) and Nancy Rakestraw, Jay and April Rakestraw, Amy and Bill Maulding, Jenny and Ryan Alexander; nineteen great grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Now reunited with his beloved Delva, they are now free to dance across the heavens.
