Thomas (Tom) Winn, 86, of Wichita Falls, Texas passed away peacefully on November 24, 2024. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, December 3, at 11.00 am, at Hampton Vaughan Crestview Funeral Home in Wichita Falls.
Tom was born on January 26, 1938 to John T. and Mary J. (Cavett) Winn in Gould, Oklahoma. He graduated from Wichita Falls High School in 1957, then completed eight years of military service with the US naval reserve. He also attended Midwestern (State) University and graduated in 1962 with a Bachelor of Science and Education degree, followed by a Master of Education degree in 1967 from the University of Texas.
Tom taught high school science in El Paso, Texas, then worked for the Department of Defense teaching American high school in Okinawa, Japan for 4 years, then in Germany for 14 years. In 1982 Tom returned to Wichita Falls and taught at Hirschi High School for eight years before retiring.
Tom enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, traveling the world, and volunteering at Meals on Wheels, and Interfaith Ministries. He also enjoyed the community at the Vantage Point Condominium where he lived for 24 years.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents John T. and Mary J. (Cavett) Winn, sister Jo Alice Griffitts, and brother Cavett Winn. He is survived by his sister-in-law Sharon Winn, niece Julia Givens and husband Russell Givens, niece Jennifer Winn, nephew Jonathan Winn and wife Anna Winn, and great nephews Harrison and Austin Winn.
Tom’s family are grateful for the loving care given by the teams at Brookdale Sikes Lake and Hospice of Wichita Falls.
