Tom was born February 1, 1927 to Thomas Sandreth and Laura Mae Ashley. He married Mary Lou McShan on September 5, 1945 in Wichita Falls and together they raised six children.
Survivors include his children and their spouses, Karen and Zane Hilger, Cynthia and Don Hughes, Debbie and Greg Baker, Mary Beth Hudson, Thomas Ashley III, Keith and Debbie Ashley; twelve grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; numerous friends and relatives.
Tom was grateful for the friends he made and the loving care he had at Texhoma Christian Care Center. He also had many friends at the Comanche Red River Casino where he spent many a happy hour in front of the penny machines.
Tom Ashley was a true renaissance man of many talents. He was a poet, songwriter, storyteller, and entertainer for six adoring children. He gave us so many happy, fun memories. But, above all, he was the husband of Mary Lou. He married the love of his life on September 5, 1945. This love only deepened with arrival of their kids. What a happy family – lots of fun and adventure. Tom had a lifelong love affair with Mary that sweetened with each passing day. When Mary Lou became a shining angel in 2003, Tom’s love for her never wavered. On Christmas day, December 25, 2011, Tom rejoined Mary for the most joyful reunion ever. While those left behind will miss him terribly, we rejoice in his joy in being with Mary Lou in heaven for all eternity.
If desired, memorials may be made to Texhoma Christian Care Center.
