Thelma Jo Myers, 86, of Wichita Falls passed away Saturday, August 17, 2013 in a local hospital. Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 PM Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at Hampton Vaughan Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Crestview Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 7:00 until 8:00 Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
Mrs. Myers was born April 2, 1927 in Knox City, Texas to Dennis and Helen (Fox) Hairston. She moved to Quanah , TX as a child and graduated from Quanah High School. She went on to attend West Texas State University in Canyon, TX and later attended Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, TX. She taught school in Gilliland, TX. Thelma married Kenneth C. Myers on May 24, 1947 and he preceded her in death in 1999.
Thelma was a member of Highland Heights Baptist Church in Wichita Falls for 66 years and taught four and five year olds there for many years. She was a member of Mary Martha Sunday School Class. Thelma enjoyed reading, working her crossword puzzles everyday and her plants. She especially loved her church, her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and her friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Kenneth and a great grandson, Ryan Keith Elkins.
Survivors include her daughter, Karen Myers Parker of Wichita Falls; her son, Ken Myers, Jr. and wife, Nancy of Garland, TX; grandchildren, Jeremy Parker and wife, Bevin, Sarah Parker Elkins and husband, Kraig all of Wichita Falls, Allsion Myers Ewing and husband, Chris of Fort Worth, TX, Austin Myers of Austin, TX; great grandchildren, Charity Lynn Parker, Kelsey Elizabeth Elkins and Sophie Elizabeth Parker; one sister, Glenda Hairston Ledford and husband, Joe of Richardson, TX.; also many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of usual remembrances, memorial donations may be made to Highland Heights Baptist Church, 3003 York St., Wichita Falls, TX 76309.
