Born in Dallas in 1925, she spent her early life in DeQueen Arkansas. She left her home to support the war effort by going to Washington DC to work for the FBI. Ruth met her husband of 62 years, James (Jiggs), while attending the University of Arkansas. After an early career as a Physical Education teacher, she happily focused her life raising her children and supporting Jiggs' career culminating at Midwestern State University. Their social life revolved around several bridge clubs with friends from Midwestern and Floral Heights United Methodist Church, where they were active members after moving to Wichita Falls in 1963.
She is remembered for her quick wit, sneaky card playing (she beat Jim in 3 straight hands of gin rummy last week!) and her Chocolate Merengue Pie. Most of all she will be remembered for her kindness, humility and loving spirit.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Jiggs, sisters EA McLeod, Peggy Upham and Rosemary Poeschel, her brother Jean Adams, and granddaughter Erin Reynolds.
She is survived by her daughter Janet Reynolds (John Callaway) of Wichita Falls, son Jim Stewart (Diane Stewart) of Fishers, Indiana, granddaughter Hillary Larbus (Jake Larbus) of Powell, Ohio and their 3 children Reese, Coleson and Myla.
Visitation will be held at Hampton Vaughn Funeral Home Monday, September 12th 4-6 PM. A celebration of Ruth's life will be in the Hampton Vaughn chapel Tuesday at 10AM. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice of Wichita Falls would be appreciated.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.hamptonvaughancrestview.com for the Stewart family.
