Funeral Services: Thursday, February 10, 2022 at 10:00 AM in the chapel of Hampton Vaughan Crestview Funeral Home, with Brother Ron Redding and Rev. Rod Payne officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM. Burial will follow at Crestview Memorial Park.
Rodney was born May 11, 1933 to John F. and Zelda Bee Ney in San Antonio, Texas. He joined the USAF in September 1951. His tour of duty took him to Lackland AFB, Colorado State College and Sheppard AFB for basic training. He also did stint in Cheyenne, WY. and Camp Kilmer, NJ. He shipped out on the USS Gen. Muir arriving in Erding, Germany. He then was shipped out on the USS Gen. Hann. He was stationed Bergstrom AFB, Austin, TX. Lowry AFB, Denver CO., Rosierer France, Volkel Netherlands, Dyes AFB, Alconbury AFB and finally Sheppard AFB where he retired as a Sr. Master SGT. In July 1974.
He was a graduate of Wayland Baptist University. Rodney drove his own truck for awhile hauling road material for Seymour Hwy and Sikes Senter. He worked at Wilson Manufacturing and the Wichita Falls Sheriff Department where he retired. He became active in Shriners and The Provast Guard. Rodney had been a “natural” Top Shooter when he started basic training in the USAF and they sent him to Camp Perry OH for competitions. He encouraged the buildings for the Shriners Gun Range. He earned a coveted distinguished shooter award and medal. He was a concealed handgun instructor. Rodney joined and faithfully attended First Baptist Church.
On September 15, 2001 he married Sue Doolen. They enjoyed multiple vacations, playing bridge and delivering meals on wheels.
Rodney is preceded in death by his parents, John and Zelda Bee.
He is survived by his wife, Sue; son, Rodney B. Ney Jr. and Gail Ann of Grayling, MI.; daughter, Ronda Ann Wetherbee and James of Wichita Falls; James Doolen and Krista; Joel Doolen and Kelsey; grandchildren, Nichole Leibercajt and Dave of Interlichen, MI; Tressa Bee Duryea and James of Grayling, MI; Rodney B. Ney III of Trever City, MI; Brian Wetherbee of Scotttsdale, AZ; Brad Wetherbee and Brie of Denton, Tx.; Mary Wetherbee of Wichita Falls, Jimmy Doolen and ten great grandchildren.
