Robert “Bob” West, beloved Son, Husband, Father, Uncle, Grandfather and Great Grandfather, passed into everlasting rest surrounded by his loving family on June 2, 2023. Bob was born in Houston, Texas on December 17, 1937, to Jewell Cassatt and Foster Freyerston West.
Bob grew up in Wichita Falls, Texas, where he met his lifetime love and best friend, Bobbie Faye West at church when he was 16 and she was 14. Bobbie was enamored with Bob because she thought he looked like Elvis Presley. Bob and Bobbie married in 1956. After graduation from Wichita Falls High School, Bob attended engineering classes at University of Texas Arlington and went to work for Bell Helicopter. Bob spent most of his career as a salesman.
Bob was a member of Cowboy Church of Tarrant County, where he was an Elder and taught Sunday School. Most of all, Bob loved teaching and spending time with children and taught Cowboy Etiquette at Wrangler Camp. Bob started the Thursday morning Men’s Bible Study with just one other member and now the Bible Study has grown to 15 men. Bob’s passion for music led him to play the tuba in the high school band. Bob always wanted to learn to play the harmonica so he could join the Cowboy Church band.
Bob loved boating and camping. In fact, that was the whole family’s favorite pastime when his two girls, Beth and Beverly were growing up. Bob even built a lake house from the ground up in Livingston, Texas and always regretted having to sell it to move to Chicago for work. After Bob and Bobbie retired, they returned to what they loved and bought a home in Lake Whitney. Bob was always fishing for the “big one that got away.”
Bob is survived by his wife, Bobbie, daughters Elizabeth “Beth” Shaver and husband David, and Beverly West, along with two grandchildren Mallory Irizarry and Nikolas Irizarry and wife Nadia Velasquez, and one great grandson, Aidan. Bob is also survived by his brother-in-law Jerry Morris, and Bobbie’s two sisters, Peggy Middleton and Carol Huckaby and many nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews. Bob is predeceased by his mother and father, Jewell and Foster and step-father Merle Cassatt, as well as Bobbie’s mother Opal West and sisters Betty Turner and husband Elsie, and Rena Morris and his brothers-in-law Mike Huckaby and Jack Middleton.
Although our hearts are broken with the loss of our beloved Bob, we take solace in the certain knowledge that Bob is in a perfect place with our Lord and Savior. May he rest in peace.
A visitation for Robert will be held Friday, June 9, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Hampton Vaughan Crestview Funeral Home Chapel, 1917 Archer City Highway, Wichita Falls, Texas, followed by a chapel funeral service at 2:00 PM.
