Norman Glenn Filkins, resident of Wichita Falls, entered into the presence of the Lord on Saturday, April 14, 2018 after a brief illness, at age 91. He was born on May 3, 1926 in Savannah, New York, the second of six children born to Alvin and Grace Filkins. He was a 28-year veteran of the United States Air Force. He served around the world with tours in Okinawa, Thailand, and Europe. He also had an illustrious second career at Siemens. He enjoyed spending time with family and traveling. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening, stained-glass, woodworking and fishing.
On November 8, 1955, he was united in marriage to Janet N. Weissmann, she survives him at their home in Wichita Falls. He is survived by his two children, Scott Edward Filkins of Lewisville, Texas and Kimberly Sue Olesen of Noble, Oklahoma; and his sister, Marion Hickey of Port Bryon, NY. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Ian Olesen, Sariah Thomas and Kirstin Olesen; One great grandchild, Xavier Olesen.
Along with his parents, Norman was preceded in death by 4 siblings, Robert Filkins, Loise Jane Filkins, Helen Knapp and Stewart Filkins.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, April 19, 2018 at the Hampton Vaughan Funeral Home Chapel. Entombment will follow at the Crestview Memorial Park Mausoleum. A visitation will be Wednesday evening from 6:30 – 7:30 PM at Hampton Vaughan Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Wichita Falls.
