Manuel Diaz Sr.

Manuel “Popo” Diaz, Sr., 76, of Wichita Falls passed away Tuesday, August 13, 2013 in Wichita Falls. Services have been scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 17, 2013 at Hampton Vaughan Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Deacon Anastasio Perez. Interment will follow at Crestview Memorial Park in the Garden of the Cross.

Manuel was born May 31, 1937 in Mathis, Texas to Eliza (Vasquez) and Jesus Diaz, Sr. As the oldest child, he was quite the babysitter for all his siblings. He married Gloria Miranda in 1958 in Wichita Falls where they settled down together and raised ten children. As his children were growing up, he was involved in Boy Scouts. Manuel owned his own business, Big D’s Construction Company, doing carpentry work for new construction. Manuel was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. He was a warm hearted and welcoming man who loved to barbeque, go on picnics, and cook.

Mr. Diaz is preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Michael Diaz, Alex Diaz; four brothers, Joe Diaz, Ronnie Diaz, Jesse Diaz, Amando Diaz; and sister, Janie Miranda.

Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Gloria Diaz; children, Manuel Diaz, Jr., Angela and husband Joe Alaniz, Monica Diaz and Rick Ramirez; Michelle Diaz and Richard Lopez, Marissa Diaz, Alexander Diaz, Rosalinda Garza, Mark Diaz and Tiffany Therman all of Wichita Falls; four sisters and their husbands, Mary and Manuel Rodriguez of AL, Ysabel and David Amaro of CA, Jolando Soto of Wichita Falls, Rosalinda and Richard of Abaya of Wichita Falls; brother and wife, Catrino and Mary Diaz of Wichita Falls; twenty-two grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 p.m., Friday, August 16, 2013 at Hampton Vaughan Funeral Home. A Rosary followed by a Vigil will begin at 7:00 p.m. after visitation.
