Lester J. Sims, 74, of Wichita Falls went to be with his Lord and savior on Friday, January 28, 2011. Services have been scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 31, 2011 at Hampton Vaughan Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Pastor Dr. Mike Roberson of Lamar Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Crestview Memorial Park.
“Bud” was born April 3, 1936 in Lykens, PA to Henry Edward and Helen Marie DeWalt Sims. He joined the United States Air Force right out of high school and retired after serving for 21 years. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War. On November 17, 1956 he married Lois May Holcomb in Round Rock, TX and together they raised four children. He coached many of his children’s sports teams and he was an amazing “grandpa” who always found time to spend with his grandchildren. He was a hard worker, sometimes having up to three jobs to support the family he adored and always put before himself. He was quite a dancer and jokester. He cherished his wife of 54 years, and they always acted as newlyweds. He was a volunteer for Texhoma Cancer Center and a member of Lamar Baptist Church.
Mr. Sims is preceded in death by his parents; four sisters; and five brothers.
Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Lois Sims; devoted children and their spouses, Gary and Kathy Sims of Wichita Falls, Sharon and Darrell Bird of Corinth, TX, Steven and Carolyn Sims of Burkburnett, Cindy and Steve Cornelison of Wichita Falls; sisters and brothers-in-law, Linda “Mousie” and Herm Knapp, Diane “Snookie” and Les Bordner, Helen Laudensager; brother and sister-in-law, Mark “Sonny” and Ruth Ann Sims, all of Pennsylvania; twelve grandchildren, Heather, Laura, Kyle, Cody, Keith, Jayson, Kristen, Jonathan, Meagan, Nick, Amber, Katy; and six great-grandchildren, Riley, Cailie, Gavin, Mattie, Brody, and one on the way.
Visitation will be held 4:00-6:00 p.m., Sunday, January 30, 2011 at Hampton Vaughan Funeral Home.
The family would like to thank the staff at the House of Hope and Hospice of Wichita Falls for the loving care of their father.
