Jon Ramon New, 72, passed away on 5 August, 2017 at the Texoma Medical Center in Sherman, TX. Jon was born on March 26, 1945 in New Orleans, LA to Guy and Lela (Christian) New. Jon grew up in Lafayette, LA and graduated valedictorian and student council president and won the Albert Einstein award from Lafayette Senior High School in Lafayette, LA in 1963. After attending college, Jon enlisted in the United States Air Force.
Jon retired from active duty as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1993 after serving 26 years. During his time, he served two tours in Vietnam and received the bronze star as well as the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with palm. From 1990-1993 Jon provided support to Operations DESERT SHIELD and DESERT STORM. Finally, over his career Jon earned the Meritorious Service Medal with three oak leaf clusters.
After retirement Jon spent several years teaching at various schools in the Wichita Falls area until his retirement.
In 1972, Jon married his first wife, Ellie (Duke) Alsup, in Wichita Falls, TX. They were happily married for 23 years prior to her passing. In 2002 Jon married Connie Mowery of Wichita Falls and the two remained happily married the past 15 years. He loved fishing, golfing, sudoku, and simply spending time with family.
Jon was preceded in death by his first wife Ellie, his Mother, Lela, his father, Guy Frank, and his brothers Guy, Pete, and Louis. Jon is survived from his first marriage by his daughter Eva (Herb), and sons Byron, Jack, and Chris (Debra); his sister Gay (Tom) and brother Charlie (Peggy). Jon is also survived by his grandchildren Emily, Ryan, Michael, Brandi, Amanda, Jon, Mason, Jeremy, and Anthony as well as 9 great grandchildren.
Jon is survived from his second marriage by his wife Connie; her three children Mindy (Danny), Christy (Flint), and Stephanie (Kaven); Jon is also survived by his grandchildren Brooke, Cole (Katy), Cheyenne, Clayton, and Christopher as well as 2 great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, 11 August 2017 at 10:00 am at the Hampton Vaughan Funeral Home located at 1917 Archer City Way, Wichita Falls, TX 76302. Burial will follow at Crestview Memorial Park. A visitation will also be held at the Hampton Vaughan Funeral Home on Thursday, 10 August 2017 from 6-8 pm.
