George was born on November 10, 1933, to Roy H. LeBus and Lavena Taylor LeBus in Electra, Texas. He spent many of his early years in Wichita Falls with his parents, brothers Roy T. and John T., and sister Sally, but they also lived in Pacific Palisades, CA and later on ranches outside of Benjamin, TX and Eagle Nest, New Mexico where he met and married Ann Kathleen Hite. After graduating from Texas Tech (where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity) with a bachelor’s degree in animal husbandry, George followed his dream to be a rancher living with Ann and working on the ranch in Benjamin where they had three children: Mary Kathleen, Suzanne, and John Andrew. He then worked with his father and siblings on the Monte Verde Ranch in the beautiful Moreno Valley of northern New Mexico and later as the general manager of the Angel Fire ski area, a part of the development begun by the family in the mid 60’s. George and Ann were divorced in 1971; he never remarried. After selling the ranch in 2005, George moved back to Wichita Falls where he became actively involved in AA, supportive of the program and members of his local group.
George was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Lavena, and brothers Roy and Tom.
He is survived by his sister, Sally of Wichita Falls, his children Mary of Rio Rancho, NM, Suzie of Edgewood, NM, and Andy of Angel Fire, NM; also, grandchildren: Tony, Thomas, Michael, Sara, Emily, and Ada as well as nieces: Lisa, Lynn, Cathy, Lavena, and Wincy.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Humane Society or charity of choice.
